The Annual Chiang Mai Thailand Food Festival, December 2013

The 26th Annual Chiang Mai Thailand Food Festival was kicked off again this week. The location was outside of the Robinson's Central Department store, in a gigantic parking lot. All types of high quality local and regional Thai food was available.

It is one spot not to miss if you are traveling through Thailand this winter.

Here is a very tasty steamed fish in curry,
nestled in a banana leaf as a bowl.
This is also environmentally friendly!

These are fish Maw balls.
Eaten with a sweet dipping sauce.
A nice guy selling his Pad Thai.
He was proud to be at the festival. You could tell.

Some of my favorites. Beautiful Andaman Sea Crabs, delicious Thai Scallops,
fresh large mussels, and grilled squid.  I ate some of the mussels, and they were good.
Cooked in a spicy sauce, directly over the fire.
Here are the fixings for fancy Thai Som Tam Salad
Here are the rest of the ingredients to put into Som Tam.
This is one of the most well liked fresh spicy salads in Thailand.

Grilled Breaded Fish!

Minced fried chicken balls. Not my favorite, but similar to fried chicken.
Hand made dumpling of course.

Un-cooked crabs, to be chopped rapidly and then
put over a fresh vegetable salad.

Meals ready to go. 100 Year Old Eggs, on the right,
vinegar pickled sausage in the middle and
shrimp and oysters on the right!

Barque pork shish kabobs.

Spicy Thai Sausages! Be ware. I said spicy.

Cotton Candy for the kids.
Fast train cars for kids to whip around the track.
In the US, they would surely be regulated to go more slowly.

Games, and darts.

A huge blow up slides for children to play on.

Whole grilled chickens. They looked good!

Scallops once again. I loved them.

Red Grilled Crabs.

Hot steamed salad with spice dressing.

Fresh fish.  Pick the piece you like and the will bread it and fry in for you!
Pig Ears and Pig intestines. Be ware.

Oysters. By the handful.

Large freshwater shrimp. Grilled.

Breaded grilled Tab Tim fish.
Steamed Tab Tim with lemon and basil.
Species, I am not sure. I believe these to be mackerel.

More Pad Thai, with various noodle types.

Sprouts, chives, and lemon wedges to
add over the Pad Thai.

Fresh Mackerel and Samlmon Shashimi.

It wouldn't have been a Thai food festival without Chicken feet with gravy.

Freshly poured Orange Juice!

A Ferris wheel. I am a bit concerned about its obvious lack of regular maintenance.
