Chiang Mai Thailand Chinese New Year 2013

I was at Chiang Mai Thailand's Chinese New Year
celebrations.

It was quite the event, although I was most interested in the Chinese food, with vendors selling snacks and grilled meats. I ate some delicious pastries, and had a few tasty Thai iced teas.

The crowd was in good spirits, and everyone was there to have fun, eat food, meet new people, and walk around for a few hours.

The Celebrations were held a Warorat market, where the street was closed to traffic, to accommodate the hoards of New Year onlookers.

Mussle omelets with bean sprouts, onionc, garlic and scallions..

Pad Thai, with whole Shrimp.

Here is Ploy, as she picks out the dumplings.

Freshly fried pork and vegetable spring rolls. They were good.

Pad Gheng Garrie. This one is in our cook book.  Yellow Thai fried curry with crab.

Spring rolls, fried spicy pork balls, french fries, and fried cut potato.

Steamed chestnuts.    Happy holidays.

Here is Ploy, buying some Dumplings.

Do you like Sushi?  How about three for a dollar?   The cheap ones are 6 for a dollar!

Some fresh mushrooms.  I like the skinny ones, called golden needle mushrooms.

Gyoza anyone?    Fresh hand made gyoza, with chicken. 6 for a dollar!

Fried shrimp, and fried spring rolls.

Pork satay.    So tasty.

These banana leaves are filled with pork, or chicken, raisins, garlic, onions, and a few other herbs.
They almost make a full meal.     What a beautiful treat.

Of course roasted baby PIG.
I enjoyed this a lot, and  had two servings.

Take a close look at the ribs.

A whole fried fish, with dried basil, and garlic, on top of Chinese cabbage.
All for only 2 dollars!

This is pure sugar kane.  The have a sugar cane press, and are making during the festival.

Fried chicken.  It was perfect. The batter was just right.

Oyster Omelets. They were fresh and large, and loaded with oysters.

The Chinese New Year Festival was absolutely perfect for snackers, food testers, and hungry onlookers like myself.
Ploy and I had an excellent time.
